Lambing 2017

We are nearing the end of our April lambing with just a few to go now until we start it all again with our May lambers who should start producing their lambs from 5th May onwards. Lambing is such an intrinsic part of Steeple Leaze Farm with an estimated 6,000 lambs expected for this year! So far we have had very positive results and hope this continues for next month too.

Coming Home!

So the last few weeks here at the farm have been busy ones moving a lot of our pregnant sheep back towards the farm ready for lambing in April. In this photo there are 440 sheep waiting patiently to be loaded up to travel to pastures new. As well as this there is general maintenance of the farm and machinery as well as scanning the sheep to see how many lambs they have.

This is what the scenes have been like on the farm this week; foggy, frosty and frightfully cold. Despite the elements farm life still carries on with feeding, checking and moving the animals as well as the general maintenance and upkeep of our farm machinery.

Fantastic Camping

Well we have had a great few weeks of lovely campers arriving to enjoy our campsite and the Purbecks. This picture was taken on the bank holiday weekend!

New Life

The photo of this heifer calf was taken just 10 minutes after she was born.  We had to assist her mother as she was a first time calver and baby was struggling to come out. Mother and baby doing well.

Meet Dobbin, one of our Limousin Bulls. We transported him down to the RSPB Arne water meadows this week to start mingling with some new ladies! He certainly made an impression, the ladies were skipping and going!
