Sheep Work

So despite lambing being over for this year there is always so much sheep work to plough through! This week was all about the sheep spray race which has proven an effective way of protecting the sheep.

Tyneham Village

With the school holidays looming upon us it can be a mind field knowing the best places and attractions to visit here in Dorset. If you are camping with us at the farm a short walk along the historic Jurassic Coast will take you to the small deserted village of Tyneham. Time stopped for the villagers in 1943 and they never had the opportunity to return. On visiting the village you will find out more about what happened in 1943, the villagers who lived there as well as the opportunity to look around the village buildings. A short walk from the village down to Worbarrow Bay is a must offering a secluded cove with walks towards Lulworth Cove. To check out when the ranges are open visit

We are slowly coming towards the end of our lambing season now, we have had around 6,000 lambs born since April and all has gone smoothly! With the bank holiday very nearly here and the school holidays, the campsite is ready for action. We do not take bookings here, we have a very much relaxed approached, simply turn up and pitch up! Someone will come round to see you to take payment and offer firewood for sale but otherwise you can simply relax and enjoy your wonderful surroundings.

Lambing 2017

We are nearing the end of our April lambing with just a few to go now until we start it all again with our May lambers who should start producing their lambs from 5th May onwards. Lambing is such an intrinsic part of Steeple Leaze Farm with an estimated 6,000 lambs expected for this year! So far we have had very positive results and hope this continues for next month too.

Don't forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram, all at Steeple Leaze Farm!

Coming Home!

So the last few weeks here at the farm have been busy ones moving a lot of our pregnant sheep back towards the farm ready for lambing in April. In this photo there are 440 sheep waiting patiently to be loaded up to travel to pastures new. As well as this there is general maintenance of the farm and machinery as well as scanning the sheep to see how many lambs they have.

This is what the scenes have been like on the farm this week; foggy, frosty and frightfully cold. Despite the elements farm life still carries on with feeding, checking and moving the animals as well as the general maintenance and upkeep of our farm machinery.
